Q Which of your teachers has influenced you the most and why?
2 teachers that have really influenced me….. the first would have to be Steffy White. I first went to her class at Frame in Shoreditch when I was starting to get into yoga in a more serious way, I loved her flows, her pace, her tone, her personality, her. Bit of a girl crush really! I started going to some of her day retreats and workshops to develop my practise, and it was her that I asked if she thought I would be able to do a YTT, and she said yes, essentially encouraging me on this path that I am now on, which I am forever grateful for.
The second, or joint second would have to be my teachers from The Yoga People, Jamie and Dulce, who I did my initial 200hr TT with, and have done all my subsequent trainings with. They are incredibly talented, knowledgeable, open, sharing, and have shaped me into the teacher that I am today. So once again, eternally grateful to them both.
- How would you like people to feel when they leave your class?
I would like people to leave feeling positive, nicely challenged and like that have achieved something in the class, but they have worked and pushed them selves physically and on a slight spiritual level ( I know this isn’t for everyone) that they can perhaps see and feel process in there practise, and feel encouraged and empowered. Yoga is so much more than a physical practise, its a state of mind, how you live your life, and how you relate to others, and I would like to think that this comes across in my classes.
- Which is one of your most inspirational quotes right now?
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
- Which is your favourite asana right now?
There are so many!! But I really like to use my practise to play, create and challenge so the asana which is doing that for me at the moment is pichamayarasana. Its slow process, strength building and body opening and takes time to master, but ill get there one day!! I think its important for people to realise that we are not all the same, we all have different strengths and yoga is a very inclusive practise. “Practise practise all is coming”- another fave quote!!
- If you could be an animal what would you be and why?
Wow, so many! But I think today I will have to go with Dolphin. I have been thinking about Dolphins a lot recently, they are just so beautiful, kind, intelligent creatures, they get to swim in beautiful clear waters, near to perfect wonderful beaches,a nd one of my favourite things to do is being on the beach in the sunshine, swimming in the sea. Id love to have the grace and ability of these wonderful animals.
- What positive changes would you like to see in the world right now?
I would like to see more kindness.
There needs to be more kindness, understanding, empathy and love. SO many of the worlds problems could be resolved if people were kinder in their words, thoughts and actions. It doesn't take a lot but it seems to be such a challenging thing for so many people, in a world where money, power and greed seem to be the priority.
More of that please!
I have been practising yoga for about 20 years!
I teach yoga along with my day job working in fashion textiles.
I did my training in Oct 2018 in Goa India with the yoga people and it deepened my love for yoga even further!
I love every type of yoga, I think there is something for every one and something for every day and every mood. I have trained in Ashtanga, Rocket and Mandala, which I love teaching. I love the creativity of yoga, putting together sequences, how you can move your body, how it can lift your mood, and how it connect people and brings about a sense of community.
I try and ensure each of my classes is different, never doing the same flow, and ensuring there is something for everybody and every level.
I wouldn’t say I’m a typical yogi in the way that I am super flexible, and doing all the incredible poses you see some instructors doing, I would say I’m pretty normal, it takes time and practise for me to achieve postures, which I am sure the majority of people can relate too!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope to see you in one of my classes soon
